Huawei Technologies is a Chinese multinational networking and telecommunication equipment and services company headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong. It is the largest telecommunication equipments manufacturer in the world. I was posted to the company by The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). NYSC is an organisation setup by the government to involve the country’s graduates in the development the country. I was attached to a project that was charged with managing the Network Operations Centre (NOC) of Etisalat Nigeria (a major telecommunication service provider in Nigeria). My role involved investigating outages at Base Station Sites (BSS) and running a root cause analysis.




Galaxy Backbone is one of the leading hosted services and IP networks provider in the country, that connects all Federal Government ministries and agencies. As part of the requirements for my undergraduate course, I needed to complete a one-year placement to acquire practical knowledge, between the second and final year of study. During this period I had the privilege of working with the Network Operations unit (3 months), Datacenter unit (3 months) and Network Security unit (6 months) of the company. This gave me a unique understanding as well as hands on experience in the operations of IP service delivery which span Datacenter Security, Network Security and the best in breed equipments and systems.
