Career Expert Tips:
Front End Engineer Resume with Writing Guide
In short, following these steps will help you avoid making the mistakes most people make when they are looking for a position that requires an engineering degree.
You probably know what it’s like to be scrambling to get a job application together in time for a one-week deadline and you don’t have the time or energy to research the best way of presenting your skills and experience effectively.
Front End Engineer Resume Writing Guide:
1. Customize Resume for Each Job Application
You should customize your resume for each job you apply to. Do not use your current Front End Engineer Resume (unless it applies precisely). Tailor each resume to the job advertisement, highlighting what you have to offer in relation to the role.
2. Think Clearly About Your Accomplishments
Make a list of your accomplishments, and then take the time to consider each one. What challenges did you overcome? How did you contribute to or change your team?
3. Contact References
You should include references on your resume. If you choose to include them, be sure to update them as appropriate. Whenever possible, avoid leaving spaces in the sequence in which references are listed on your resume; this can make it hard for readers to find the reference they need quickly during a job interview.
4. Have a Professional Resume Written
Professional resume writing should not be done by the candidate. It is a job reserved for an experienced professional who certainly knows how to write a good and effective resume. If you are not comfortable with the process, you can hire someone to do this for you.
5. Look Through the Job Advertisement
It is important that you take the time to read the job advertisement carefully and understand what they are looking for. It is easy to assume that you do not need an education level, number of years of experience or specific technical skills because you have similar skills. However, this may not be true and could be detrimental to your chances of getting a job in the industry.
6. Choose the Right Format for Your Resume
You should choose either chronological format or functional format. The format will depend on whether your resume is more related to your education and career history, or your experience and achievements.

How to write a Front End Engineer Resume with No experience:
- Be sure to explain why you need this job. In my case, I needed a job in front-end development because I had 3 years of experience doing some work on HTML/CSS pages and building websites and because I felt that my experience was relevant to the position. Timing is essential since an employer will never be satisfied with a “I will learn it when I get there” type explanation if you have no work experience to speak of.
- Do you have 4+ years of experience? If so, use your years of experience to stand out. An employer may not care about the number of years you have as much as your work experience and if you’re a good fit for the company. Don’t state your years of experience if it’s less than 4 or 5 unless the job description specifically asks for it. Instead, briefly express what you’ve done professionally in those 4+ years with a focus on the projects that are most relevant to the position.
- Don’t lie or fabricate experience (or any other references). Always be honest about your experience. If you don’t have a lot of experience, then focus on projects you’ve worked on in college, previous jobs and side projects. The most credible references are from professors in college since they have spent years dealing with thousands of students (after all, that’s their job) and can easily spot a liar.
- Have an online portfolio? If you have one, link to it from your Resume (Hint: Linked In Profile).
How to write a Front End Engineer Cover Letter:
- Paragraph 1 : Address the most current position you are applying for. This lets the recruiter know that you have done your homework and allows them to decide whether or not they need to read on. Say something insightful here, but make sure it isn’t the only thing they read. Recruiters are busy and don’t want to waste their time reading something that is already known.
- Paragraph 2: Tell the recruiter why you are a great candidate for this position and company in general. You want to show that you have done your research and understand the company.
- Paragraph 3: Explain what makes you unique as a candidate for the job. This is where you fit in that “perfect puzzle” that we all strive for. You may also want to talk about why this opportunity is a perfect match between you and the company, and how both of you will benefit from it.
- Paragraph 4: Explain the benefits a Front End Engineer can have on their career and why they should hire them with your information.
- Write your resume with career goals in mind.
- Ensure your resume is clear and concise.
