At the start of my career with AG I was appointed in the supporting role of a Junior Trader & Portfolio Manager within a regional branch of AG Paarl, South Africa. I was responsible for investment research and analysis, I assisted in trading and execution, and dealt with end-client queries and instructions. The branch has since then experienced rapid growth and to date has expanded to a further three satellite locations. During this period, I have steadily grown my own client base, and become a senior staff member, earning a seat on the branch investment committee and taking on the responsibility of Office Manager for a satellite office in Wellington, South Africa. More recently I have filled the role of Interim Operations Manager of our securities team. My primary roles at present include the following:

Wealth Manager

I provide a combination of financial advice and discretionary investment portfolio management services to clients in the following areas: local and offshore investments (share portfolios and collective investment schemes), retirement planning, divorce planning, risk- and estate planning.

Office Manager

As the office manager of our satellite office in Wellington, South Africa, I am responsible for the oversight of effective operations, the supervision of supporting staff members, as well as providing training and development for junior employees.

Equity Trading and Execution

On a branch wide-level I am responsible for the trading and execution of equity portfolio transactions across the branch’s client base. This function includes trading on an execution only basis for non-discretionary clients as well as on a discretionary basis in accordance with the branches managed client book and model portfolios.

Investment Committee, Research and Analysis, Media

I am a member of the branch investment committee and play a critical role in the decision-making process regarding the management of branch level model investment portfolios for clients. In addition, I remain involved with the research and analysis process, and the development of written opinion and analysis pieces for local news publications and client newsletters.

My role as an actuarial analyst involved actuarial administration, calculation, insight, evaluation, recommendation and reporting on institutional retirement products, both on the assets and liabilities of institutional retirement funds. Projects worked on included: defined-benefit and defined-contribution retirement fund valuations; investment return calculations and consolidation; surplus apportionment exercises; and various other projects that required specialist insight and knowledge, such as the adequacy of fund investments to meet the needs of pension fund stakeholders.

My first entrance into the professional job market started in the HR department of Fusion Outsourcing Services (now WNS Global Services) as an HR MI Administrator and Project Manager. WNS is a global firm that manages various customer service and call center services on behalf of major global and local corporations. The role included administration, analysis and reporting on data related to human resource to facilitate informed decision making and allow management to plan ahead. I was also responsible for the coordination of internal and external human resource related projects. Projects included regulatory compliance procedures, internal expansion and migration to a secondary regional office building. During my short time with WNS I was promoted to the role of an MI Analyst within the first 2 months of employment. The scope of my role as an MI Analyst involved analysing and reporting on key performance indicators of the customer care function of a major British client and conducting various campaign specific research and analytics. The role also required the construction of small- to-medium scale excel based models to facilitate daily dashboard performance indication and month-end compensation of staff. The position provided me valuable experience in a high-growth, high-paced, and multi-cultural corporate environment, working alongside individuals across borders in countries such as the UK and India.
